Week 8 – February 25- 29 2008– 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Curiosity

Monday:

Quote: G. K. Chesterton once said, “Curiosity is always rebuked as one of the restless weaknesses of humanity, but I am inclined to think that most people are not inquisitive enough. They have not what I call clean curiosity – a mere appetite for the truth. They cannot be interested and disinterested too.”

Word: Vision – a mental image or imaginative contemplation. Organizations are often driven by an overriding vision – this vision is translated into a specific mission which is quantified by one or more goals or objectives -

Tuesday:

Quote: Samuel Johnson said something wonderful about curiosity – “Curiosity is one of the most permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect.” Wow – so if we are curiosity – and I know we are – we have a vigorous intellect – don’t you feel great about that?

Word: Intuition – the direct knowing or learning of something without the conscious use of reasoning – immediate understanding. Intuition implies an innate knowledge or sense or a suspicion that something might be the case.

Wednesday:

Quote:  Alistair Cooke said, “Curiosity is free-wheeling intelligence. It endows the people who have it with a generosity in argument and a serenity in their own mode of life which spring from the cheerful willingness to let life take the forms it will.”

In the first film of Harry Potter – when Harry is getting his wand and each one brings a different response – the wand master after his shop is blown apart stops and says, “Curious, very curious –“ I love that part and it reminds me that we can choose to think in broad terms – free-wheeling intelligence!

Word: Manifest – apparent to the senses or to the mind – Manifest applies especially to that which can be perceived by the senses (especially sight and implies something that is obvious to the understanding) Apparent to the mind or easily apprehensible.

Thursday:

Quote: A.E. N. Gray said, “There are two ways to interest a man or arouse his curiosity. One is to tell him something that he didn’t know. The other is to remind him of something he has forgotten.” This is dear to my heart because in my presenting I aim to do both of those things – we know so much all of us – that being reminded can stimulate so much good – learning something new can also – it’s having our minds open and alert that makes the greatest impact!

Word: Discern – to perceive or recognize, make out clearly, Discern implies a making out or recognizing of something visually or mentally –

Friday:

Quote: Eleanor Roosevelt ends our week of curiosity quotes with this, “Life was meant to be lived, and curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.”

I interpret this to mean – keep learning, keep questioning, keep striving – as you all are by getting up early each day!

Word: Theoretical – limited to or based on theory, hypothetical – theoretical implies something proceeding as according to theory, even though actual practice might not prove this out.

Week 7 – February 18-22 20085-5-5 Plan – Theme – Common Sense

Welcome to week seven! Wow – we are rocking and rolling and I pray using our early morning time for good, great and awesome –

Monday: The theme is common sense this week and I don’t know who said it but I heard once that common sense wasn’t so common any more – so I thought it would help us all.

Quote: Today’s quote is from Richard Aldington who said, “A little common sense, goodwill, and a tiny dose of unselfishness could make this goodly earth into an earthly paradise.”

Word: Realist – one who has a tendency to face facts and be practical, an optimist looks on the bright side of things a realist looks at things as they are good or bad.

Tuesday:

Quote: I loved today’s quote and it struck true for how I feel I am living so here it is by Marquis De Lafayette, “I read, I study, I examine, I listen, I reflect and out of all this I try to form an idea into which I put as much common sense as I can.”

Taking all I learn and helping others is a gift I am so blessed to be doing – what are you blessed to be doing?

Word: Devoted – very loving, loyal or faithful although being loyal implies an obligation being devoted is more often altruistic – (unselfish, humane etc.)

Wednesday:

Quote: Robert G. Ingersoll once said, “It is a thousand times better to have commonsense without education than to have education without commonsense.”

So this makes me think – use what you learn Shawna – to make study effective – to grow in ways that will benefit others –

Word: Compromise – to settle or adjust by concession on both sides – compromise is often the only way to break a impasse in negotiations

Thursday:

Quote: A writer gives us today’s quote and a good writer Harriet Beecher Stowe was and a good quote she has given us – “Common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done.”

Wow – how many of us can relate to that in today’s world – we don’t have to agree with others behavior – we can see it and still do what is right or ought to be done. – Aren’t you grateful we can choose?

Word: Streamlining – to arrange or organize, to gain simplicity and efficiency, many families streamline their activities so they can lead less complex lives – or at least it’s a good idea? What can you stream line? What would make good sense to give up or let go of?

Friday:

Quote: Today’s quote is a bit longer however it’s got wisdom in it and it’s from Horace Walpole – all the old names where heavy weren’t they? Here’s what Horace said, “To act with common sense, according to the moment, is the best wisdom; and the best philosophy is to do one’s duties, to take the world as it comes, submit respectfully to one’s lot, bless the goodness that has given us so much happiness with it, whatever it is.”

Word: Sustain – to keep in existence, keep up, maintain, sustain implies a continuum rather than an isolated struggle – and for a habit – a good habit we need to think about what we can sustain – what seems to make sense to us -

Week 6 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Cooperation

Monday:

This week I’ve selected as our theme – cooperation – It’s only through all of us cooperating with each other that we can have this call – this help and growth -

Quote: John Craig said this true statement – “No matter how much work a man can do, no matter how engaging his personality may be, he will not advance far in business if he cannot work through others.”

Word: Advocate – to speak or write in support of – be in favor of, advocacy refers to the action of supporting, vindication or recommending publicly – usually through use of an argument of some sort – an advocate is one you pleads or argues another’s cause – such as a lawyer. However I feel that we can be advocates for each other and it’s the best compliment you can give.

Tuesday:

Quote: Samuel Goldwyn once said, “Ninety per cent of the art of living consists of getting on with people one cannot stand.”

So then in my mind the other 10% of life is the bliss and joy and excitement of being with people you adore – the goal of course being with those you like more often than not.

Word: Coterie – A close circle of friends who share a common interest or background – coterie implies a small, intimate somewhat select group of people associated for social or other reasons.

We are a coterie – the 5-5-5 coterie – How about that!

Wednesday:

Quote: Joseph Joubert said something short and profound – “Never cut what you can untie.” – this hit me for some reason – I think because my natural tendency is to cut and move on – however the simply lesson in these six words can evoke a change – untie – you never know when you will have to re-tie – or work with someone again. So I wanted to share this with you. “Never cut what you can untie.”

Word: Alliance – a close association for common objectives, such as nations, political parties etc. Alliance refers to any association entered into for mutual benefit and implies a formality such as a treaty or agreement.

So when you are contracted with someone you are in alliance with them.

Thursday:

Quote: Another great quote I found from Bruce Van Horn is this, “One of the most important trips a man can make is that involved in meeting the other fellow halfway.”

Think of that saying – an important trip – life to me is a journey – and sometimes in especially difficult times it’s difficult to remember that each journey has peaks and valleys and regardless of where you are in the adventure – others have walked that path before you and will after you. Awesome -

Word: Synchronous – happening at the same time, occurring together, being in synch – implies being aligned in some form or fashion. We are synchronous in these calls – all happening at the same time in different locations!

Extra Quote by William Saroyan “Love doesn’t have to be perfect. Even perfect, it is still the best thing there is, for the simple reason that it is the most common and constant truth of all, of all life, all law and order, the very thing which holds everything together, which permits everything to move along in time and be its wonderful or ordinary self.”

Friday:

Quote: Ending the week with this quote from Sir Walter Scott pleases me because it makes me think of all those who have helped me. Here it is: “The races of mankind would perish did they cease to aid each other. From the time that the mother binds the child’s head till the moment that some kind assistant wipes the brow of the dying, we cannot exist without mutual help.”

I hope you all know that you help me each morning – to get up, to be present and to be prepared for you and my day – You are serving a magnificent purpose as I hope I am for you.

Word: Harmony – a combination of parts into a pleasing or orderly whole – A team can work together in perfect harmony – and isn’t harmony a great goal for your team and your family?

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Hi 5:15 Team!

Love being inspired by you in the morning! Thank you!

Here are the quotes and I’ve included the words as well for this week five -can you believe how fast it’s going? Whew!

Be Present! Shawna

Week 5 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Beliefs

Monday:

Quote: Sir Chinmoy once said, “An un-aspiring person believes according to what he achieves. An aspiring person achieves according to what he believes.”

So first is belief – then our beliefs produce our behaviors – and those behaviors produce our results – and usually our results reinforce our beliefs – so what we belief – right or wrong determined our results. What do you believe about yourself?

Word: Optimist – One who has the tendency to take the most hopeful or cheerful view of matters or to expect the best outcome. Optimists are known for seeing a “half-full” glass.

Tuesday:

Quote: William R, Lucas said, “That which you vividly imagine, sincerely believe, ardently desire and enthusiastically act upon will inevitably come to pass.”

Today my call to you is to think about that which you ardently desire – is it new business and if so – how much and with whom? Is it better health – if so – then what exactly does that look like – a certain weight, a measure or a feeling or energy? Is it amazing relationships – with who and what experiences can you vividly imagine?

I might add to Mr. Lucas’s quote – “Only” that which you vividly imagine, sincerely believe, ardently desire and enthusiastically act upon will inevitably come to pass. -

Word: Staunch – Firm; steadfast; loyal. Implies such strong allegiance to one’s principles or purposes as not to be turned aside by any cause.

Because you are on the 5:15 team I know you are a staunch supporter of personal and professional growth. I am a staunch supporter of you!

Wednesday:

Quote: H.W. Dresser gave us this, “Be true to the best you know. This is your high ideal. If you do your best, you cannot do more. Do your best every day and your life will gradually expand into satisfying fullness. Cultivate the habit of doing one thing at a time with quiet deliberateness. Always allow yourself a sufficient margin of time in which to do your work well. Frequently examine your working methods to discover and eliminate unnecessary tension. Aim at poise, repose, and self control. The relaxed worker accomplishes most.

Boy did this quote strike home from what many of us have been working on – being our best – working on one thing at a time and taking the time to think – Successful living is not a secret!

Word: Capacity – The ability to contain, absorb, or receive and hold. Capacity is a measurement of how much you can do.

You have the capacity to great things – be self directed and fill yourself with only good things today!

Bonus today from Joe Vitale

When I gave my “15 Minute Miracle” talk in Maui last December, the message was that this moment is the one you are seeking, yet it’s also the one you are dismissing.

When you appreciate this moment, you’re at one with all and you’ve experienced the greatest miracle of all: happiness.

Are you in this moment, or reflecting on the past or dreaming about the future?

Are you in this moment, or waiting for something to happen to feel happy again?

Are you in this moment, or reliving a past memory that you thought was better than now?

The miracle is now.

Be here now.

Thursday:

Quote: Norman Vincent Peale – who wrote “The Power of Positive Thinking” said, “When you affirm big, believe big, and pray big, big things happen.”

Word: Capability – a capacity for being used or developed. People have abilities; things have capabilities.  This is new to me – I always thought I was capable however with this definition I realize I am able – and my computer is capable –

Friday:

Quote: Noah Porter have us these thoughtful words, “Remember that what you believe will depend very much upon what you are.”

Think about that for a moment – when we believe life is good, right and people will help us – what are we? When we believe things are hard, people can’t be trusted and we can’t get ahead what are we?

What is exciting is that who I believe you are – people who arise early to think, work out both their bodies and minds, stick to their commitments and stay present – are the top 2% in the world – You inspire me –

Word: Encourage – to give support to or to be favorable to; to help. Motivation and inspiration are relatively hands-off activities; encouragement often involves direct support of some kind.

Interesting – we can be inspiring or motivation and distant – however to encourage we are more directly involved.

Hi Early Risers!

What a great week and what a great group! You are amazing – and it’s a blessing to share each morning with you! Here are all the quotes from this week – and a few of my comments – You have everything you need inside of you and it’s an honor to know you!

Week 4 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Attitude

Monday:

Quote: “Everything can be taken from man except the last of the human freedoms, his ability to choose his own attitude in any given set of circumstances – to choose his own way.” Victor Frankl –

Victor Frankl wrote – “Man’s Search for Meaning” about the concentration camps – a recommended book – and it puts our life in perceptive – we have the power to choose what we will think and our feelings now!

Tuesday:

Quote: Don Ward once said, “Your mind can focus on fear, worry, problems, negativity or despair. Or it can focus on confidence, opportunity, solutions, optimism and success. You decide.”

And this is the black and white wolf again – so my call to you today – what are you focusing on this week?

Wednesday:

Quote: Today’s quote is from Amy Tan – who wrote “The Joy Luck Club” and it struck me well – probably because of lot of fate has happened to me…

“If you can’t change your fate – change your attitude.”

I love it because even when we are in a situation we don’t like or find ourselves doing something we don’t like – we have the power of changing our attitude and feeling.

What power -

Thursday:

Quote: Doug Hall – a business writer came up with today’s quote and I hope –no I know he’s right – so here it is –

“You can increase your brain power three to fivefold simply by laughing and having fun before working on a problem.”

Friday:

            Quote:

This comes out of a quote book I have called, “Whatever It Takes” from The Edge Learning Center and the following was not attributed to anyone though it was probably Bob Moawad and I wanted to end the week with it:

Losers always have an excuse;

Winners always have an idea.

Losers fix the blame;

Winners fix the situation.

Losers make promises;

Winners keep commitments.

Losers let it happen;

Winners make it happen.

Losers say, “Why don’t they do something?”

Winners say, “here’s something I can do.”
