Hi Early Risers!

Boy does time go fast! 11 weeks! Yikes! Here are the quotes on Excellence! Enjoy – Shawna

Week 11 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Excellence

Monday: The theme for the week is excellence and it takes a strong will to get up and be on these calls – it takes a commitment to excellence!

Quote: Oliver Cromwell said something short and Impactful: “He who stops being better stops being good.”

With this eleventh week here and all of us up and moving – we are getting better so we are on our way not just to good but to excellence!

Word: Excellence – the fact or state of excelling –superiority, eminence – an excellence quality or feature –

Tuesday:

Quote: Today’s quote comes from Charles M. Sheldon – who gives a call to action: “First, always seek to excel yourself. Put yourself in competition with yourself each day. Each morning look back upon your work of yesterday and then try to beat it. Second, I ask you to look upon the whole of life as a vast university – the ideal university of the future whose students will spend a part of  the time in leaning what to do and how to do it and then a larger part in actually doing the things they learn to do.”

Word: Tactic – the method used to implement an organizations strategy, tactics are the details of a larger strategy.

Wednesday:

Quote: We’ve going to the ancients for today’s quote – Aristotle once said:

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

Word: Distinguished – a thing or person that is distinguished is not necessarily superior just recognized or honored by others for some accomplishment.

Thursday:

Quote: George Bernard Shaw said this, “I tell you that as long as I can conceive something better than myself I cannot be easy unless I am striving to bring it into existence or clearing the way for it.” That’s what makes us excellent – the striving to bring things into existence or – hear this again – clearing the way for it – sometimes it’s not what we add to our lives – it’s what we take away.

Word: Confidence – firm belief, trust or reliance where faith requires no proof, confidence is often based on evidence or past performance.

Friday:

Quote: Today’s quote comes from a woman – Pearl S. Buck who was an author – she said, “The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.”

Word: Fulfill – to fill the requirements of or to satisfy (a condition) or answer (a purpose)

Week 10  March 10 – 14 2008 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Energy

Monday:

The theme this week is energy – and there is energy everywhere and this week we can find it and use it and spread it! Plus I need it! We got in from the airport and picking up Squirtel and into bed – I noted about 12;30 on my clock – so yippee on energy – especially with daylight savings time! Thank you all for being who you are and the disciplined and committed people you are to be on this call this morning.

Quote: The beginning quote for the week is long and wonderful and comes to us from Sir Thomas Buxton –

“The longer I live, the more deeply I am convinced that that which makes the difference between one man and another – between the weak and the powerful, the great and the insignificant, is energy – invisible determination – a purpose once formed and then death or victory. This quality will do anything that has to be done in the world, and no talents, no circumstances, no opportunities, will make one a man without it.”

Wow – energy – invisible energy – God!

Word: Prestigious – having or imparting the power to impress or influence because of success or wealth.

Tuesday:

Quote: Because it’s all about energy this week and energy is so powerful – today’s quote – is simple and clear – it’s from Albert M. Greenfield who said, “A man doesn’t need brilliance or genius, all he needs is energy.”

Word: Bolster – to prop up, support, strengthen – bolster implies an emotional encouragement

Wednesday:

Quote: The quotes I found for energy were all inspirational – and I’m so glad I picked this word as a theme for the week – sometimes I would get all whipped up doing the research!  Thomas Fuller said, “The real difference between men is energy. A strong will, a settled purpose, an invincible determination, can accomplish almost anything; and in this lies the distinction between great men and little men.” – Energy – unseen yet so felt!

Word: Blithe – showing a gay cheerful disposition – blithe implies being carefree, happy and light-hearted – sometimes to the point of lacking or showing a lack of due concern for any given situation

Thursday:

Quote: William Blake one said something lovely –“Energy is the only life, and is from the body; and reason is the bound or outward circumference of energy. Energy is eternal delight”

Double quote this one from Dale Carnegie: If you want to be happy, set yourself a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes. Happiness is within you. It comes from doing some certain thing into which you can put all your thought and energy. If you want to be happy, get enthusiastic about something.

Word: Prodigy – a person so extraordinary as to inspire wonder – one who is a prodigy is wonderful and amazing due to a special or unusual talent –

Friday:

Quote: We are finishing the week with a quote from Harry Truman – a past president and wise man – who said, “I found that the men and women who got to the top were those who did the jobs they had in hand with everything they had of energy and enthusiasm and hard work.”

It’s pretty simple really – use what we are given – each of us has unlimited amounts of energy to tap, and use and revel in.

Word: Attune – to bring into harmony or agreement –

We as a 5-5-5 team are in attune to each other and how we feel in the morning!

You are the best and I am honored to have each of you in my life each morning – making things happen, being present in your day and living life to the fullest! Bravo to you!

Week 9 : March 3 – 7 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Discipline

The theme this week in Discipline – which is fitting with Don and I being on vacation and still doing the discipline of these calls – because we want to! However the end of the week Sandy is providng the quotes and inspiration – Thank You Sandy!

Enjoy!

Do you remember seeing G.I. Jane? Where Demi Moore, besides being totally hot looking goes into the Navy seals program – Viggo Mortgenson the actor quotes from a poem book in the scene of the first day of seal training – and the quote was, “I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.” – What a good thing to mention on this week of the discipline theme.

Quote: Henry Ward Beecher gave this great advice on discipline – “Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you. Never excuse yourself. Never pity yourself. Be a hard master to yourself – and be lenient to everybody else.”

Word: Goal – the specific end or objective that a business or organization strives to attain, specific to it’s mission a goal is quantifiable.

Tuesday:

Quote: The quote today is one of my favorites for the simple reminder of it – it’s from Harry Emerson Fosdick – “No horse gets anywhere until he is harnessed. No steam or gas ever drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.”

Wowzer!

Word: Faculty – power or ability to do some particular thing – a special aptitude or skill – a faculty is a special ability – often innate -

Wednesday:

Quote: Immanuel Kant said this about discipline – “Man must be disciplined, for he is by nature raw and wild.” I take this to mean that the wonderfulness of being raw and wild works to our benefit when we use it for our and others greatest good by channeling it into a purpose. That takes discipline –

Also I like to remember – that discipline isn’t hard – after it becomes a habit -

Word: Ability – skill or talent – ability implies a strong competence in doing something or a sufficiency of strength, skill and resources

Thursday:

Quote: Vince Lombardi – the famous coach had this to say about discipline – and I would consider him an expert! “I’ve never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn’t appreciate the grind, the discipline… I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour – this greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear – is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle victorious.”

I think we can all agree that when we’ve given our all we feel more fulfilled – getting up early especially when we don’t want to – or it’s hard – leaves us with a better feeling about ourselves –

Word: Induce – to lead on to some action, condition, belief, and so on – induce implies an incentive or reward that persuades one to accomplish a certain task

Friday:

Quote: To end this week on discipline I’ve found some fun short sayings on discipline – and many are about the human tendency to not have discipline or will power – so here are some I thought were fun

Why is it that someone who has the will power to give up smoking doesn’t have the will power to stop bragging about it?

Human beings have will power while a mule has won’t power.

One sure way to test your will power is to see a friend with a black eye and not ask any questions.

Word: Specialist – a person who concentrates in a particular field of study, professional work and so on – by dint of devoting increased attention to a specific area  specialists usually have a better grasp on details than do generalists
