Week 25 We Dream! June 25, 2008

Week:              Theme:: Dreams

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately dreaming  - about my life, the future, the present and how dreams give us texture and color and progress – we need to dream – as the quotes this week will declare – so ask yourself – do I allow my self to dream – and how often – when and what do I do with those dreams?

Monday:

Quote: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. – Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote has double meaning for me in it – because it’s not just about dreaming – it’s about believing in your dreams – that’s who will define the future – those who believe in their dreams – you and me.

Word: Express: to convey (a thought or feeling) in words or by gestures and conduct – to express yourself – to say what one thinks or means – or this week – dreams!

You create your day by the way you think –

Go make it a magnificent day!

Tuesday:

Quote: Tom Bradley has said something others have as well: “The only thing that will stop you from fulfilling your dreams is you.”

I like to think since you on these calls are committed to the discipline, committed to being your best – that you are not in your way – however even when we do all we think we can – sometimes it’s simply us getting in our own way – so today – think about what you may be doing that is preventing you from realizing your greatest good.

Word: Facet – one side of something many-sided – a particular aspect or feature of something – it’s only one facet of you – your dreams – then we need action!

You create your day by the way you think –

Go make it a magnificent day!

Wednesday

Quote: Carl Sandburg said something simple about life, “Nothing happens unless first we dream.”

This goes to what we say each day – we are present – we are creating our lives -  so bravo to everyone on these calls – because somewhere you said, – I’m dreaming of an extra hour – now that you have it – are you using it well?

Word: Lexicon – the vocabulary of a person, language, or branch of knowledge – it seems like a pretty big word to mean words – however we are what we repeatedly say – you have your own – positive or negative lexicon.

You create your day by the way you think –

Go make it a magnificent day!

Thursday

Quote: Today’s quote is one that made me stop and think – my favorite thing about quotes – they make me, or allow me, to stop and think – do I agree or disagree? Anyway – this quote is provided by Mary Manin Morrissey who said, “You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.”

For some reason the two words – fear and faith hit be when I read this – they are opposites indeed –

I say I have a faith based business and indeed I do – and when I falter and fail it’s because I misplaced my faith and allowed fear to waste my time – and it’s a waste – I know that it’s only me and more limiting beliefs that can hold back abundance and joy –

Simple principal – sometimes difficult to practice – like dieting!

Word: Today the word surprised me so I decided to share it: The word is niggle – and the word sounds very different to me than it’s definition which is: cause slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort or anxiety.

The sentence that was used, “a suspicion nibbled at the back of her mind – however it makes me think of giggled – and I would break into giggles if I used the word niggle especially if I was annoyed!

You create your day by the way you think –

Go make it a magnificent day!

Friday

Quote: CS Lewis, one of my favorite authors gave us the last quote on dreams for this week when he said, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”

Lately Don and I have been discussing where we want to travel in our lifetime – places we want to experience before we go – and it’s felt a little limiting – of course no one knows how long they will live –

This exercise has done some incredible things – helped us define what is important – figure out ways to do the things we want –

It’s also made it kinda easy to say – will we want to build another house from the dirt up like we did this one? – like it’s gonna be hard – and then I’m reminded from CS Lewis – that I’m never to old – that dreams are not the realm of age, they are the realm of imagination – and that part of us does not age

Word: Squander – waste (something, esp. money or time) in a reckless and foolish manner – allow an opportunity to pass or be lost.

My call to you then – do not squander your time or talents or dreams!

Three convicts escape from prison. They make it to a nearby town but are confronted by a policeman.

“Hey, aren’t you those three escaped convicts?”, asked the policeman.

Thinking on his feet the first convict looked around him and said “no, I’m Mark, Mark Spencer.”

“The second followed his lead and said “My names is William, W H Smith.”

The third said “My name is Ken… Ken Tuckyfriedchicken!”

And an extra for fun:

Why do seagulls fly over the sea?

Because if they flew over the bay, they’d be called bagels!

You create your day by the way you think –

Go make it a magnificent day!

Hi Early Risers – we’ve just completed week 24 of 2008 – yikes! This little idea has legs! Here are the quotes from this 24th week on ideas! Blessings – Shawna

Week 24 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Ideas

This week of our 24th together is about ideas – and the 5-5-5 started exactly as that – an idea – as I was lamenting the fact that I had a desire to get up early and accomplish more – that every time I read about a great leader – and their discipline about holding this habit – Zig Ziglar started me off, then others and the most powerful was Mary Kay Ash, who even with three small children would arise at 5 AM and get two hours of strong focused work in before the rest of the house got up –she built an amazing business and never gave up the 5 AM habit and her top sales people now continue the 5 AM club to stay at the top of their game, I was convinced it needed to be a habit of mine too.

So ideas – the beginnings – the middles – the creative sparks that can happen any time and anywhere are vital – we will be hearing the thoughts of others on ideas this week however the call for me is this: To act on my ideas – I do not find I am short of ideas – however the action on them is not as strong as I’d like – getting up early is now a habit – however am I using my time to the best of my ability and if not what ideas do I have or do others have to alter this – it’s going to be an exciting week!

Monday:

Quote: George Gardner said this about ideas – “Thought is, perhaps, the forerunner and even the mother of ideas, and ideas are the most powerful and the most useful things in the world.”

Ideas!

Ernest Dimnet said this, “Ideas are the roots of creation.”

Ideas!

Word: Conviction – a strong belief – a conviction is stronger than an opinion because of the presence of reasons or proof. We can have conviction about our ideas!

Tuesday:

Quote: This quote is old from A.S. Gregg (it uses the word shilling) however it is great none the less – so I will replace the word shilling with dollar and it’s the exact way I want to live – it’s actually what is making these calls wonderful – here’s the quote – “You have a dollar. I have a dollar. We swap. You have my dollar and I have yours. We are no better off. But suppose you have an idea and I have an idea. We swap. Now you have two ideas and I have two ideas. We have increased our stock of ideas 100 per cent.”

Word: Opine – to hold or express an opinion – to think to suppose – we can have the opinion that our ideas are wonderful – or at least strong enough to be shared.

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: B.C. Forbes shares these thoughts on ideas, “Edward H. Harriman, then undisputed ruler of several railway empires, remarked that he liked to drop into an executive’s office and find him with his feet on the desk. The chances were, he reasoned, that the man was taking time off to do nothing but think. Is it your experience – it is mine – that ideas can be hatched much more freely when not immersed in routine duties?… The subconscious mind seems to function most fruitfully when one’s nose is not on the grindstone.”

Word: Enhance – to make greater – as in cost, value, attractiveness etc. to improve the quality or condition of something or someone – some ideas simply enhance current ideas or things – that’s the beauty of ideas!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

            Quote:

Grant Wood said something that made me smile about ideas, “All the really good ideas I ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.” People don’t do that any more so what can we replace it with? Walking the dog, mowing the lawn – what do you do that is simple and physical that lets your mind wander and work?

Word: Evolve – to develop by gradual changes, to unfold – and ideas will evolve – especially if you share them!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: Anne Heywood said this: “We must treat ideas somewhat as thought they were baby fish. Throw thousands out into the waters. Only a handful will survive but that is plenty.”

It also implies that ideas are plentiful – which they are!

Word: Inevitable – that which can not be avoided or evaded – certain to happen, implies a sense of fate or logical consequence  - ideas are inevitable to those that think!

Joke of the week:

Jars and Bottles

A woman was trying hard to get the catsup to come out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her four-year old daughter to answer the phone.

“It’s the minister, Mommy,” the child said to her mother.

Then she added, “Mommy can’t come to the phone to talk to you right now. She’s hitting the bottle.”

Tuesday:

Quote: George S Merriam ( a merry name) said this, “The sense of humor is the oil of life’s engine. Without it, the machinery creaks and groans. No lot is so hard, no aspect of things is so grim, but it relaxes before a hearty laugh.”

        Word: Tough Rats

Three rats are sitting at the bar talking bragging about their bravery and toughness.

The first says, “I’m so tough, once I ate a whole bagful of rat poison!”

The second says, “Well I’m so tough, once I was caught in a rat trap and I bit it apart!”

Then the third rat gets up and says, “Later guys, I’m off home to harass the cat.”

Quote: Grenville Kleiser gives us some great thoughts on humor when he shared, “Good humor is a tonic for mind and body. It is the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment.” And I will add – it’s everywhere – are we blessed or what?

Word: What do you call cattle with a sense of humor?
Laughing stock.

What do you call a greedy ant?
An anteater!

What do you get if you cross some ants with some tics?
All sorts of antics!

Joke of the day: Harry can’t figure out what to get his girlfriend for her birthday. “Oh,” she says, “just take me someplace expensive.” So he drops her off at the gas station.

Week 22 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Hope

Monday:

This week the quotes and theme are on hope – and since I will be traveling during the time of these calls on several days – my hope (which Don is sharing right now) is that you will have an amazing week – that the hope in your hearts for all good things will swell and expand – hope is a great force as you will see from this weeks quotes – hope is something you have – it’s yours – it’s wonderful – enjoy!

Quote: Vaclav Havel once said – “Hope is a feeling that life and work have a meaning. You either have it or you don’t, regardless of the state of the world that surrounds you.

Word: Adamant – not giving in or relenting – un-yielding – adamant implies an internal force that resists change or attack. And hope can be a driving force –

Wednesday:

Quote: Charles Sawyer has a wonderful quote today, “Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so indispensable, none so powerful, as hope. Without hope men are only half alive. With hope they dream and think and work.”

Word: Felicitous – used or expressed in a way suitable to the occasion – felicitous implies good fortune or something happening at a good time.

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: Katherine Logan once said this, “There is always hope for an individual who stops to do some serious thinking about life.”

And this also by Martin Luther, “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope. No merchant or tradesman would set himself to work if he did not hope to reap benefit thereby.”

Word: Impetus – anything that stimulates activity, driving force or motive, incentive, impulse – Impetus implies initiative, a pushing forward, or an energetic beginning

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: To end this wonderful week on hope I’ve found a quote by Melvin J. Evans who said, “The men (and women) who build the future are those who know that greater things are yet to come, and that they themselves will help bring them about. Their minds are illumined by the blazing sun of hope. They never stop to doubt. They haven’t time

Word: Momentum – a strength or force that keeps growing – we can have strong momentum of hope!

Joke: Beautiful Choir

It was visitors’ day at the lunatic asylum. All the patients were standing out in the courtyard and singing, “Ave Maria”, and singing it beautifully. Oddly, each of them was holding a red apple in one hand and tapping it rhythmically with a pencil.

A visitor listened in wonderment to the performance and then approached the conductor. “I am a retired choir director,” he said. “This is one of the best choirs I have ever heard.”

“Yes, I’m very proud of them,” said the conductor.

“You should take them on tour,” said the visitor, “what are they called?”

“In the beginning this was a big problem. One inmate wanted to call them the “Big Apple with Little Brown Seeds Singing Sons of Siam”. But I said it was too long and, anyway, none of them were from Siam. Then, another thought “The Pencil Leads” was a good name but the others disagreed because they had no one to write to.”

“Well,” the visitor asked, “What name did they finally agree on?”

“Surely that’s obvious,” replied the conductor. “They all agreed to call themselves”…are you ready for this?…

“THE MORON TAPANAPPLE CHOIR”
