Week 36 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Loyalty

Monday:

This week we focus on loyalty – and interesting word and I find a different meaning to many – there is loyalty to ones country – that came up several times in the quotes I read – loyalty to each other – my call to you is to think about what loyalty means to you.

Quote: Philip D. Armour said this, “There is one element that is worth its weight in gold and that is loyalty. It will cover a multitude of weaknesses.”

What I took from this is with humans – with each other – when your friends are loyal you forgive them much – when your lover is loyal – it’s wonderful and can make even not the ideal more wonderful – knowing that another is loyal to you is a gift – and we can get that gift best by showing loyalty to others.

Word: Snippet – a bit, scrap or morsel. It is occasionally used informally to describe a small or mischievous person, usually a child.

Tuesday:

Quote: Maurice R. Franks said this, “Loyalty connate be blueprinted. It cannot be produced on an assembly line. In fact, it cannot be manufactured at all, for its origin is the human heart – the center of self-respect and human dignity. It is a force which leaps into being only when conditions are exactly right for it – and it is a force very sensitive to betrayal.”

When I was a young girl and making first friends – it was vital that my friend would keep my confidences – those fears I shared in secret – and when another betrayed my faith – it was such a painful act of disloyalty – however it was the training ground of the character we build from being betrayed and from not being and how we decipher our friends.

Word: Iota. This noun is not only the ninth and smallest letter of the Greek alphabet; it also connotes “a very small amount.” The Latin spelling of the word is “jota” and gives us a different word with the same meaning; “jot”

Wednesday:

Quote: Because of all the political upheaval I thought this quote from John A. Hannah was interesting, “No citizen of this nation is worthy of the name unless he bears unswerving loyalty to the system under which he lives, the system that gives him more benefits than any other system yet devised by man. Loyalty leaves room to change the system when need be, but only under the ground rules by which we American live.”

Word: Modicum – From the Latin for “moderate” or “measure,” this noun means “a small or modest amount.” Of course that amount changes, depending upon what you are meting out.

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: Socrates gives us some great advice on loyalty, he said, “Think not those faithful who praise all they words and actions, but those who kindly reprove thy faults.” And isn’t that what good friends are for?

Word: dram –a noun for “a tiny amount” that has a specific weight. A “dram” is “a unit of weight equal to 1/16 of an ounce – it is often used to mean a small amount however it does have actual weight value.

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: The last quote on loyalty is from Seneca and it is also a good call to action, “It goes far toward making a man faithful to let him understand that you think him so; and he that dose but suspect I will deceive him, gives me a sort of right to do so.”

Word: Dollop – This noun probably comes from the Norwegian word for “lump” and means “a small quantity” or “splash,” usually of a liquid of soft solid.

Joke of the week:

One day at a meat-packing plant where they wrap hams and other assorted meats – a rather rotund woman came out to walk to her car. Just as she passed the guard shack, a ham dropped out from under her skirt. Before the guard could react, she wheeled around, shouting, “All right, who threw the ham?”

Mind- Full Week 35 September 5, 2008

Week 35 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Mind

Monday:

This weeks theme is The Mind – a gift we all have, each person, every one – and the quotes about the mind were mind-boggling! This is a fascinating topic to me since I was not raised to use my mind is the best ways – I only remember my dad saying, “Use your head Shawna!” usually when I had done something stupid – however there was never really a call to think and so I seek it now – I realize that how I use my mind – how I think is everything – so it’s a great focus for a new month.

Quote: Today’s quote comes from George Matthew Adams who said, “One reason why men and women lose their heads so often is that they use them so little! It is the same with everything. If we have anything that is valuable, it must be put to some sort of use. If a man’s muscles are neglected, he soon has none, or rather none worth mentioning. The more the mind is used the more flexible it becomes, and the more it takes upon itself new interests.”

So my call to us this week is to use this valuable gift we are all given and to expand our mind!

Word: Obstinate – stubbornly refusing to change one’s opinion or chosen course of action, despite attempts to persuade one to do so. Open minds are not obstinate.

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Tuesday:

Quote: Today’s quote comes from James Lane Allen who said this about the mind, “ A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must and will bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seed will fall therein and will continue to produce its kind.”

What I loved about this quote is that we are all cultivating our gardens by being on these calls each morning – we are gaining new thoughts simply by listening and thinking about the great thoughts of others. How great is that?

Word: obviate – I was unfamiliar with this word which mean to remove (a need or difficulty) – the Venetian blinds obviated the need for curtains. – also – avoid; prevent – a parachute can be used to obviate disaster.

Not like the word under it – Obvious – which means easily perceived or understood – a big difference between the ate and ous endings!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: For this hump day of Wednesday I am sharing several short and powerful quotes on the mind with you:

Christian Bovee said, “Mind unemployed is mind un-enjoyed.”

Napoleon Bonaparte said this, “There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind. In the long run the sword is always beaten by the mind.”

And lastly a quote not attributed to anyone however great advice none the less: “It is well for people who think to change their minds occasionally in order to keep them clean.” Sort of like underwear I figure!

Word: Odoriferous – what a great sounding word – it means – having or giving off a smell, esp. an unpleasant or distinctive one – they used it with odoriferous herbs – I use it with odoriferous dogs! Much more fancy word that odor

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: Eric B. Gutkind once said, “People are afraid to think, or they don’t know how. They fail to realize that, while emotions can’t be suppressed, the mind can be strengthened. All over the world people are seeking peace of mind, but there can be no peace of mind without strength of mind.”

I loved that – since I seek peace of mind – a peace that passeth all understanding – well now I have the call to strengthen my mind and it may be easier to gain that peace –

Word: Onerous – a task, duty, or responsibility) involving an amount of effort and difficulty that is oppressively burdensome – sometimes using our mind can be onerous – and well worth it!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: A.J. Nock said our last quote of the week, “The mind is like the stomach. It is not how much you put into it that counts, but how much you digest.”

Word: Onyx – which I thought meant black – the color of onyx – my mother had black onyx earrings I remember fondly – what onyx really means is: a semiprecious variety of agate with different colors in layers. So onyx is any color of agate or a lot of colors – learning something every day is good for our mind!

Joke of the week:

A sick little four-year-old boy was rushed to the emergency room with a terrible cough, high fever, and vomiting. The doctor did an exam, and then asked the little boy what bothered him the most. After thinking it over, he said hoarsely, “I would have to say my little sister.”

Love that week 34! August 29, 2008

Week 34 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Love

Monday:

This weeks theme is a great one – to me and to mankind as well – it’s love. As I eagerly went through the quotes on love it became apparent that people put love into categories – the romantic love, the family love and the love for all others or of mankind – this week it’s the love of mankind I’m focused on – to love one another – to love each other – it’s a gift and a blessing.

Story of speaker who asked me my secret – “Love them!”

Quote: So instead of ending the week with a series of quotes on love – I’m going to begin that way –

Johann Wolfgang Van Goethe once said, “We are shaped and fashioned by what we love.” Think about that – music, art, people, pets, – what is it we love and how is it fashioning us?

Then: Simeon Ben Eleazar said this about love: “Greater is he who acts from love than he who acts from fear.” – when we are moving into more challenging times – think on this –

Lastly:

From Kahil Gibran: “Work is love made visible.”

Word: Distribution – the action of sharing something out among a number of recipients. The way in which something is shared out among a group or spread over an area. Not product distribution, or supplies – why not love – we can be love distributors!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Tuesday:

Quote: Samuel Butler gave us today’s quote on love: “To live is like to love – all reason is against it, and all healthy instinct is for it.”

Loving is somewhat unreasonable – think of how strong an emotion love is – how much is hurts sometimes to see what we love leave or fade away – the bitter sweetness of having experienced the sunset, or symphony or lovemaking – and even though we know we may experience these things again we also know that we can never experience this exact same thing – and it’s freshness to us – lets do it anyway and not hold back a bit of it.

Word: Distinction – a difference or contrast between similar things or people. The distinction can be made between those who show and give love freely and those who don’t – what group are you in?

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: Henry Ward Beecher gave us today’s quote: “Of all earthly music, that which reaches farthest into heaven is the beating of a truly loving heart.”

This touched me – of all earthly music – wow – the sounds of a loving heart – how are they manifested in us – with joyful tones, with laughter or kind words – are we speaking/playing/providing loving music to the world?

Word: Dynamic – of a process or system characterized by constant change, activity or progress – a dynamic economy. Of a person – positive in attitude and full of energy and new ideas – this is a dynamic group of lovers!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: A woman gives us today’s quote, Constance Forster – who said, “Every time we hold our tongues instead of returning the sharp retort, show patience with another’s faults, show a little more love and kindness, we are helping to stock-pile more of these peace-bringing qualities in the world instead of armaments for war.”

Think on that a moment:

Holding our tongues –

Showing patience with another’s faults

Showing more love and kindness

Each of us can help the world today by doing these things now

Word: Druthers – a person’s preference in a matter – if I had my druthers I would only be with loving people – and I have my druthers!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: George Washington Carver said something I’ve used for years – “Anything will give up its secrets of you love it enough.”

Story of Elly – Love it out of her -

Word: Dramedy – (came up as a misspelled word!) it means – a movie, play or broadcast program that combines elements of drama and comedy – so I realized my live is a Dramedy – and I think most people’s lives are!

Joke of the week from Readers Digest – Life in these United States –

A husband decided to install a light switch in the master bedroom. Cutting into the wall, he discovered a stash of bottles and boxes. “Honey!” he called excitedly. “Come see what I found!” As his wife ran in to see she quickly realized that the man’s next task would be to fix the hole he had made in the back of their medicine cabinet.

Best Week 33 for You and Me! August 22, 2008

Week 33 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – BEST

This weeks theme is best – that word can conjure up a lot of different things – what is the best? How do we become the best and who is the judge? I thought it was a good theme for this second week of the Olympics – when we are watching and hearing about the best in a variety of sports – each of us can be our best as well – if it is an expectation –

Monday:

Quote: H.W. Dresser said this about the best, “Be true to the best you know. This is your high ideal. If you do your best, you cannot do more. Do your best every day and your life will gradually expand into satisfying fullness. Cultivate the habit of doing one thing at a time with quiet deliberateness. Always allow yourself a sufficient margin of time in which to do your work well. Frequently examine your working methods to discover and eliminate unnecessary tension. Aim at poise, repose, and self-control. The relaxed worker accomplishes most.

Word: Babble – talk rapidly and continuously in a foolish, exited or incomprehensible way – it comes from babbling – like a stream – to make continuous murmuring sound of water flowing over stones – a babbling brook -

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Tuesday:

Quote: Abraham Lincoln has something interesting to say about being the best – matter of fact there are two quotes from Abraham Lincoln this week – I found it interesting that he is quoted twice in my quote book under this topic –

“I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

This struck me as interesting – knowing how history played out – this shows us that Lincoln was concerned with his decisions – that he was thoughtful about what he was doing and that his intent was to do his best and keep on doing it – what a wonderful standard – are we always doing our best? Do we think about that really?

Word: Babushka – love saying that word! It is from Poland and Russia – it means an old woman or grandmother – also a headscarf tied under the chin which was typical of those worn by Polish and Russian women. I thought Babushka meant child or loved one –

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: John Farrar once said, “There is only one real failure in life that is possible, and that is, not to be true to the best one knows.”

This took me up – have I not been or done my best sometimes – I would have to confess that I have not – that I’ve sometimes allowed – good enough- to happen. So this week and doing the research for this week has been extremely helpful. When we open ourselves to others thoughts – when we learn or question we are better – we can be better – and get to doing/being our best.

Word: Bailiwick – this means one’s sphere of operations or particular area of interest – example: Giving presentations – that’s my bailiwick. Don’s bailiwick is horses so what is your bailiwick?-

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: The quote today made me once again think about the athletes that are competing in the Olympics – it comes from John Lubbock who said, “When we have done our best, we should wait the result in peace.”

I loved the thought – that it is doing our best that is the win in life – that doing our best will and does bring peace.

            Word: Barrow – three definitions:

A metal frame with two wheels used for transporting objects such as luggage (manure) a wheelbarrow –

An ancient burial mound –

A male pig castrated before maturity –

Interesting…

Friday:

Quote: To end the week on our theme of best I have two quotes – one is the famous one from Somerset Maugham who said, “It is a funny thing about life – if you refuse to accept anything but the best you very often get it.”

And then one more from Abraham Lincoln who said, “I have simply tired to do what seemed best each day, as each day came.”

What a great call to live by! – to simply do what seemed best each day as each day came – what more could we ask?

Word: Bloomer – a plant that produces flowers t a specified time – night bloomers – a person who matures or flourishes at a specified time – a late bloomer – and we can be a bloomer anytime!

Weekly Joke:

Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients being discharged. Once a young student nurse found an elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on this bed with a suitcase at his feet – he insisted to her that he didn’t need help to leave the hospital –

After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly got in the wheelchair and into the elevator. On the way down the young nurse asked him if his wife was meeting him.

He replied, “I don’t know, she’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.”

Week 32 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Life

Monday:

Quote: Edgar Watson Howe said our first quote of this week on life, “Life is like a game of cards. Reliability is the ace, industry the king, politeness the queen, thrift the jack. Commonsense is playing to best advantage the cards you draw. And every day, as the game proceeds, you will find the ace, king, queen, jack in your hand and the opportunity to use them.”

I loved this – and had heard it before – each day as we live we can be reliable, industrious, polite and thrifty using our commonsense – so let’s!

Word: abiding – of a feeling or a memory) lasting a long time: enduring: he had an abiding respect for her. I didn’t know the actual meaning of abiding however it makes sense –

Wednesday:

Quote: William J.H. Boetcker said this: “Before you can write a check, you must first make out a deposit slip; before you can draw money out of a bank, you must put money into a bank; before you are entitled to a living, you must give the world a life; if you want to make a first-class living, learn to give the world a first-class life.”

Word: accolade – an award or privilege granted as a special honor or as an acknowledgement of merit. An expression of praise or admiration. A touch on a person’s shoulders with a sword at the bestowing of a knighthood.

Thursday:

Quote: Francis Bacon said something meaningful about life: “Man ought to know that in the theater of human life, it is only for Gods and angels to be spectators.”

We must live it! All of it, every day!

Word: adjunct: a thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part; computer technology is an adjunct to learning. A person who is another’s assistant or subordinate. – I didn’t know what the term adjunct professor really meant – it’s an added position not a regular or permanent one.

Friday:

Quote: Friday series of profound and short quotes:

The first from Democritus, “Life unexamined, is not worth living.”

Then William Feather said, “One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.”

Mahatma Gandhi said this which I really needed, “There is more to life than increasing its speed.”

Malcolm Forbes shared, “To live your life in the fear of losing it is to lose the point of life.”

And last quote for the week on life comes from Emily Dickinson who said, “To live is so startling it leave time for little else.”

Word: affinity, a spontaneous or natural liking or sympathy for someone or something. A similarity of characteristics suggesting a relationship. I have an affinity for all of you!

Joke of the week

Man walks into the Doctors office.

“I have the results of your test and I’m afraid you’re going to die” Says the Doctor.

The Man asks “How long do I have to live?”

“Ten”, replies the Doctor.

“What the heck does that mean”, the Man asks. “Ten Years, Ten Months, Ten weeks. What?”

The Doctor Replies “Nine

30 Weeks of Learning & More to Come! July 31, 2008

Week 30 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Learning

Monday: I’m so excited about this weeks topic – it’s Learning! I’m in the Ls you know!

The reason learning excites me is because as I learn, as I seek, as I discover I become better, more interesting and more valuable to others – and to myself – one of my favorite things in life is to learn – and for me – to learn things twice or more as I teach and share.

Quote: Harvey Ullman said this about learning, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether this happens at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps on learning not only remains young, but becomes constantly more valuable regardless of physical capacity.”

Roll Call

Word: Languish (of a person or other living thing) lose or lack vitality; grow weak or feeble – sometimes people languish after college and don’t’ continue to learn

Tuesday:

Quote: Daniel Bell said this, “To think of learning as a preparation for something beyond learning is a defeat of the process. The most important attitude that can be formed is that of desire to go on learning,”

Word: Lanyard: a cord passed around the neck, shoulder, or wrist for holding a knife, whistle, or similar object. A cord attached to a breech mechanism for firing a gun – how I know it is a name tag lanyard – things change!

Wednesday:

Quote: William J.H. Boetcker said this “Most men believe that it would benefit them if they could get a little from those who have more. How much more would it benefit them if they would learn a little from those who know more.”

Word: Largo – in a slow tempo and dignified in style – and I only thought Key Largo – a place – now maybe we know what it’s known for –

Thursday:

Quote: Lord Chesterfield gave us this good advice, “Never seem wiser or more learned than the company you are with. Treat your learning like a watch and keep it hidden. Do not pull it out to count the hours, but give the time when you are asked.”

I liked this because it was a good reminder to me to be a listener – that I learn more then and I don’t offend – Story of giving advice to help young speaker and it not going well…

Word: Lamentable – (of circumstances or conditions) deplorably bad or unsatisfactory – it’s lamentable how few people really embrace learning!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Friday:

Quote: It seems I spend Friday’s giving a series of short quotes – my day to fill your brain with variety…

Henry Adams said this, “They know enough who know how to learn.”

An Arabian proverb states this: “Learning is a treasury whose keys are queries.”

And lastly a piece of advice from M.M. Coady: “The man who has ceased to learn ought not to be allowed to wander around loose in these dangerous days.”

Word: Legend – a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but unauthenticated – the legend of King Arthur. Also – an extremely famous or notorious person esp. in a particular field. – like – “A legend in his own mind!”

Joke of the week:

The phone rings at FBI headquarters. “Hello?”

“I’m calling to report my neighbor.
He is hiding marijuana inside his firewood.”

“Thank you very much for the call, sir.”

The  next day, FBI agents descend on the neighbor’s house.
They search the shed where the firewood is kept.
Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana.
They swear at the neighbors and leave.

The phone rings at the neighbors house.
Hey, Adrian, did the FBI come?”

“Yep.”

“Did they chop your firewood?”

“Yep.”

“Great, now it’s your turn to call. I need my garden plowed.”

Leadership Week July 26, 2008

Week 29 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Leadership

Monday:

I’m excited to be sharing quotes this week on leadership – what I have come to know is that we are all leaders – and firstly, leaders of ourselves. When we can lead ourselves we can then think or determine if we can lead others – what an option, what a wonder –

So today’s quote is for leading – others and self – it’s short – it makes a point – I feel that leadership is always about how we are for ourselves and others so here is our first quote on leadership:

Quote: By James Crook – who said, “A man (person) who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.”

Wow! – Turning his back on the crowd – means you do what is right for you, for others – regardless of what is popular! This is a group of leaders!

Word: Labyrinth – a complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one’s way: a maze – an intricate and confusing arrangement – which is what leadership is sometimes –

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Tuesday:

Quote: William J.H. Boetcker said this about leadership: “The man who is worthy of being a leader of men will never complain about the stupidity of his helpers, the ingratitude of mankind nor the in appreciation of the public. These are all a part of the great game of life. To meet them and overcome them and not to go down before them in disgust, discouragement or defeat –that is the final proof of power.”

That first line is the best – a person who is worthy of being a leader of men will never complain about his helpers – never complain is really a key.

Word: Laconic – (of a person, speech, or style of writing) using very few words –

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: Stanley C. Allyn said, “Leadership involves remembering past mistakes, an analysis of today’s achievements, and a well-grounded imagination in visualizing the problem of the future.”

Basically a person who can think – and don’t I stress this a lot?

Word: Lactose – which simply means a sugar present in milk – which surprised me – I thought it meant milk in general – so there you go!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: Along the same theme of thinking… gives us today’s leadership quote from James Byrnes who said, “Trained and inspired leadership is needed in the troubled world of today. We live in uncertainty and fear. The times call for thinking and straight thinking – one of the goals of true education.

Unfortunately, the world so clamors for action that men and women devote little time to thinking. Many believe in second-hand thinking. They find it easier to ascertain and adopt the thought of others than to think for themselves.”

This makes me think of how the media spins things, how fear can infiltrate our minds with thoughts of lack, war, worry – When you only fill your mind with ideas, with solutions, with hope and opportunity those are the things that grow -

Word: Laggard, a person who makes slow progress and falls behind others – so many people are laggards in regards to thinking or in leadership!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: I’ve decided to share a variety of my favorite and short quotes on leadership so here they are:

Napoleon Bonaparte said this wonderful thing about leadership: “A leader is a dealer in hope.”

W. Fusselman said, “To-day a reader, to-morrow a leader.”

John Seaman Garns said, “Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determinations.”

And Jules Ormont said, “A great leader never sets himself above his followers except in carrying responsibilities.”

Word: la di da – pretentious or snobbish, esp. in manner or speech – and here’s the fun part – I thought it was – La ti da – so I’m inept at snobbish!

Joke of the week:

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day and all the patients were chanting and shouting, “Thirteen!  Thirteen!  Thirteen!  Thirteen!  Thirteen! Thirteen . . .”

I was curious to see what they were so excited about, but the fence was too high to see over.

Then I saw a little gap in the planks and looked through to see what was going on.

Some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick -

and they all started shouting “Fourteen!  Fourteen!  Fourteen!  Fourteen!  Fourteen! . . .”

Week 28 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Joy

Monday: This week’s theme is joy – it’s a joy to share this theme with you! Also it was a joy looking up quotes and it’s also a joy to have these morning calls with all of you! Thank you!

So here is something I discovered – all the above tasks are tasks I’ve been doing the whole year – and it’s been wonderful – however I don’t know if I infused the tasks with joy – I may have – I live in that state a lot – however when we are conscious of it – when we pause even for a second and recognize joy it makes things so much sweeter.

Focus on joy this 28th week of 2008 – see what happens!

Quote: Robert Southey once said, “The very society of joy redoubles it; so that, while it lights upon my friend, it rebounds upon myself, and the brighter his candle burns, the more easily will it light mine.”

Word: Jangle – to make or cause to make a ringing metallic sound – I’ve got spurs that jingle, jangle jingle – as I go riding merrily along….

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Tuesday:

Quote: George Bernard Shaw said this about joy, “There is a true joy of life; to be used by a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; to be thoroughly worn out before being thrown on the scrap heap; to be a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that life will not devote itself to making you happy.”

This is a group that can not be accused of being selfish and complaining of ailments – you are creating your life by the way you think and thinking well! Bravo!

Word: jardinière – and ornamental pot or stand for the display of growing plants – pretty fancy!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Wednesday:

Quote: Percy Bysshe Shelley said this, “When the power of imparting joy is equal to the will, the human soul requires no other heaven.”

Listen to this again – The power of imparting joy – we have the power of imparting joy – to ourselves, to others, to the world – what joy can you spread today?

Word: Jocular – fond of or characterized by joking: humorous or playful: she sounded in a jocular mood – this word to me is misplaced – jocular sounds like men’s sports equipment!

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Thursday:

Quote: A short quote this morning from John Ray who said, “A joy that’s shared is a joy made double.”

Doing the Create Your Ultimate Year today will be a joy and a joy shared – I am so blessed to present and share wisdom with others – what a blessing that I am grateful for!

Word: Jovian – (In Roman mythology) of or like the god Jove (or Jupiter) – of or relating to the planet Jupiter or the class of giant planets to which Jupiter belongs – By Jove! – Jove is another name for Jupiter

You Create Your Day by the way You Think! Be Present!

Go make it a Magnificent Day!

Friday:

Quote: Our final quote this week on joy is from Frederick William Faber who said, “There are souls in this world which have the gift of finding joy everywhere and of leaving it behind them when they go.”

This is a call to action for us – we can be those souls that find joy everywhere and then leaving it behind as we go knowing that we’ll find it again and again – Wowzer!

Word: Jollification – lively celebration with others; merry-making – it’s that joy!

Joke for Friday

Unbreakable

A salesman was demonstrating unbreakable combs in a department store. He was impressing the people who stopped by to look by putting the comb through all sorts of torture and stress.

Finally to impress even the skeptics in the crowd, he bent the comb completely in half, and it snapped with a loud crack. Without missing a beat, he bravely held up both halves of the ‘unbreakable’ comb for everyone to see and said, “And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what an unbreakable comb looks like on the inside.”

Knowledge Week 27 July 11, 2008

Week 27 – 5-5-5 Plan – Theme – Knowledge

Monday: This week the theme is knowledge – something good and interesting for this mid summer time – since a lot of us do more reading this time of year – I loved the quotes for this week – there were many to choose from – here is our first…

Quote: This quote is from George Matthew Adams who said, “You are your greatest investment. The more you store in that mind of yours, the more you enrich your experience, the more people you meet, the more books you read, and the more places you visit, the greater is that investment in all that you are. Everything that you add to your peace of mind, and to your outlook upon life, is added capital that no one but yourself can dissipate.

Word: Knowledge – facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education: the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject –

However above it was the word: Knowing and that definition is: showing or suggesting that one has knowledge or awareness that is secret or known to only a few people – so I seek to have knowledge and also knowing – to go deeper   - because I/we can!

Tuesday:

Quote: Thomas Arnold once said, “Real knowledge, like everything else of the highest value, is not to be obtained easily. It must be worked for, studied for, thought for, and, more than all, it must be prayed for.”

I liked this because prayer is such a big part of my life however I don’t know if I’ve thought about praying for knowledge – and why wouldn’t I?

Word: Kickapoo – a member of an American Indian people formerly living in Wisconsin, and now in Kansas, Oklahoma, and north central Mexico.

Wednesday:

Quote: Lord Chesterfield gave us today’s quote – and I am altering it slightly so be more genderless – instead of the word, men, I have substituted the word people – it doesn’t alter the lesson-  “Learning is acquired by reading books; but the much more necessary learning, the knowledge of the world, is only to be acquired by reading people, and studying all the various editions of them.”

Isn’t that a lovely way to say be observant, to look and listen and discover what others, all others have to teach?

Word: Kremlin – a citadel within a Russian town. (the Kremlin) the citadel in Moscow. The Russian or (formerly USSR government housed within this citadel.

So I looked up citadel – which is: a fortress, typically on high ground, protecting or dominating a city.

Thursday:

Quote: Franklin P. Adams said something that happens to me often – especially in doing these 5:15 calls – he said, “I find that a great part of the information I have was acquired by looking up something and finding something else on the way.”

I have been amazed and delighted how that happens – and it only happens when I’ve been seeking something – so it’s not the discovery that is the greatest gift – it’s the journey to find –

Word: Kaput – broken and useless; no longer working or effective. I always thought that was just my dads saying! “Well, that went kaput!”

Friday:

Quote: A couple of fun short quote on Knowledge –

“Knowledge is free at the library. Just bring your own container.” Anonymous

And Anonymous also said this which I like, “Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean.”

Such good advice!

Word: Karma – coming from Hinduism and Buddhism – the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. – also destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.

Joke of the week:

It’s Simple

The truth is that if you take a little time to learn a few basic principles and some of the technical lingo, buying the right computer and getting it to work properly is no more complicated than building a nuclear reactor from wristwatch parts in a darkened room using only your teeth. So let’s get started!
